The EOS 5i DP DP is a versatile, easy-to-use charger with special features
for fast charging, discharging and cycling NiCd and NiMH packs of up to
14 cells, Lithium packs to 5S, and lead-acid batteries to 12V.
It contains advanced features to support safer charging of Lithium batteries,
including special circuitry to insure that PCM Guard devices are not damaged
on open-circuit conditions. Most chargers will output a high voltage when
encountering PCM open circuit, thus damaging the PCM, but the EOS 5i DP
limits output to an always- safe maximum of 25V.
The DataPort version EOS chargers, when connected to LBA10 balancer via
cable #HP-EOSLBA10-DPC, allow the user to monitor the individual voltages
of each battery cell during the charge process. The LBA communicates with
the charger, giving notification when balance charging is completed, or
when an error is detected and tells the charger to shut down. This insures
maximum safety.
The EOS 5i DP, with its max charge rate of 5 ampere, is ready for large
capacity lithium packs. The discharge and cycling programs allow you to
easily diagnose the condition of your packs, with a Data View mode that
conveniently displays detailed information about the charge or discharge
cycle.
The EOS 5i is similar to another market-leading charger made in the same
South Korean factory, but has these important improvements:
The EOS 5i is limited to Lithium-Polymer and Lithium ION batteries with
nominal voltage of 3.7V per cell. Selection for legacy Li-Ion batteries
having 3.6V/cell is not available (3.6v Li-Ion cells are obsolete since
2003, in our opinion...). This makes the Charger much easier to use, as
an entire second-level menu is eliminated. Having only one type of cell
also allows the EOS 5i to display lithium 1S, 2S, 3S, 4S, 5S... rather
than choosing a voltage. So the EOS 5i interface is easier to use and
safer because you can't choose the wrong per-cell voltage.
Input cord (to car battery, etc) is twice as long, so you can rest the
charger on the ground rather than trying to balance it on top of a hot
car engine.
Charger comes with red/black output charge cords: 20cm long, 12 ga silicone
wire, two 4mm Male Banana Plugs attached one end, soldered wire other
ends. The customer only need solder on his preferred battery connector.
(you can see the cords attached in the picture above)
As noted above, the EOS 5i limits voltage on open circuit, so that it
is guaranteed safe for any PCM or Balancer device. This is unique to the
Hyperion EOS Charger line.
